Oil & Gas Site Expansion: Revamping Rail Infrastructure

The Oil & Gas Site Expansion project in Kitimat, BC, with a value of $7,400,000, involved a comprehensive overhaul of the rail infrastructure. The scope of work included the removal and dismantling of 8,266 track feet of existing track and 7 turnouts to clear the way for new construction. A total of 14,120 track feet of new track was constructed, enhancing the site’s rail capacity and functionality. To ensure environmental protection, 250 track feet of #2 spill containment pans were supplied and installed. The project also required the supply and distribution of 20,000 tons of ballast to support the newly laid tracks. Additionally, various safety features were installed, including 1 double switch point derail and 2 sliding derails. The installation also included 7 #8 turnouts, 3 #10 turnouts, and 3 #8/10 lap turnouts, all contributing to the improved efficiency and safety of the rail operations.
